Images of the fisherman of the Magghia Masculina Presidium taken by Turin photographer Paul Montanaro received a special mention at the last edition of the International Photography Awards in Los Angeles, one of the world’s major photography festivals.
The photographs were included in the section People Culture and show the work of the few remaining fishermen in the Gulf of Catania at dawn. The fisherman still use menaidi nets: long meshed nets that hold the anchovies captive, giving them a better taste and therefore making them more valuable.
